Announcing Clean Data with Copilot in Excel

Hello everyone, this is part 10.series of postsLet me show you a few things you can do with Copilot in Excel.

We’re excited to introduce Data Cleansing, a new AI-powered feature in Excel. Copilot in Excel lets you organize your data with just one click. Clean Data detects text inconsistencies, number formatting issues, and extra white space and provides solutions for them. This feature is now available in Excel for web users and will be rolled out to Windows desktop users in the coming months.

Just select the Clean Data option from the Data tab on the ribbon or interact with the pop-up banner to get started.

Text mismatch in cells with same value

This feature attempts to identify unnoticeable changes in similar values ​​that may cause subsequent problems. For example, you have a column with mixed uppercase and lowercase text in the cells. Or, cells in a column that contain differences in punctuation or diacritics.

Clean Data helps you find these inconsistencies and easily fix them.

Number format mismatch in column

This feature identifies columns with mixed text and number format cells, which can lead to incorrect calculations. Clean Data helps you find these inconsistencies and convert cells in ‘text’ format to numeric format.

Proposal to remove additional space

Clean Data also offers to detect and remove unnecessary whitespace from highlighted tables, including extra leading whitespace, trailing whitespace, and whitespace between values.

practical tips

Here are some guidelines to help you get the most out of Clean Data:

• Cleanse Data works best with tabular data with up to 100 columns and 50,000 rows.
• Clean Data works best with formatted data. Excel table. To create an Excel table, click anywhere in your data, then Home > Table > Table Format.
• Although not limited to English, Clean Data initially works best in English.
