Hello, Microsoft 365 Insiders! We’re excited to announce that Microsoft Teams Public Preview users can now use animated backgrounds in their meetings.

Animated backgrounds in Teams

The animated background feature in Teams meetings lets you replace traditional backgrounds with dynamic animations to create more immersive virtual environments. It offers a variety of options to enhance your meeting experience with creativity and personalization, depending on what you want. Currently, only predefined backgrounds from Microsoft are supported.

How it works

• On the pre-join screen before starting the meeting, select: Effects and Avatars > Video effects Select a new animated background, identified by a small video icon in the lower left corner of the preview image.
• To choose an animated background during your meeting, click: more > Effects and Avatars > Please select background.

Known Limitations

• Animated backgrounds are not available on low-end devices and require a CPU with at least 8 GB of RAM and 4 logical processors.
• Currently only predefined backgrounds from Microsoft are supported.
• If your computer is under a heavy workload, using video filters may slow down background animations.

effectiveness

To use this feature, users must be members of Teams Public Preview and using the Windows or macOS Teams client. Other meeting participants do not need to be members of Teams Public Preview.

To enable Teams clients for public preview, your IT admin must set an update policy. Show preview feature. Find out how Public Preview of Microsoft Teams.

• if Follow Office Preview When the option is selected, the Teams Public Preview feature will be automatically enabled for all users enrolled in the Office Current Channel (Preview). No additional action is required from end users.
• if Activated If the option is selected, end users must also: Join the Teams public preview Access Teams public preview features in the Teams app.
• if forced Once the option is selected, Teams Public Preview will be automatically enabled for end users. No further action is required from end users.
