The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services seeks applications for the Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training Program – Community Living and Participation.

The purpose of the ARRT program is to increase capacity for high-quality disability and rehabilitation research by providing grants to institutions to provide advanced research training to individuals holding a research doctorate or equivalent advanced degree (e.g., clinical doctorate, MD, JD). Clinical or other relevant experience.

The ARRT Project trains disability and rehabilitation researchers, including individuals with disabilities and individuals underrepresented in the scientific community, with particular attention to areas of research that support the implementation and goals of the Rehabilitation Act and improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Act. The ARRT project should provide advanced research training to qualified individuals to strengthen their capacity to conduct high-quality, comprehensive disability and rehabilitation research to improve outcomes for people with disabilities.

Proposed ARRT projects must:

  • Recruit and select candidates for advanced research training and include a targeted plan for recruiting people with disabilities in their applications. Applicants may also include a targeted plan to recruit individuals from additional populations underrepresented in the scientific workforce, including Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Other Pacific Islander. there is.
  • We offer educational programs that include didactic training, are interdisciplinary, and emphasize scientific methodology.
  • Provides research experience that provides hands-on experience or other practical activities with qualified researchers at a host institution or other appropriate institution with an organization representing people with disabilities.
  • Provides academic and career mentoring. Applicants should describe how they will foster relationships between trainees and mentors.
  • Provides opportunities to participate in the development of professional presentations and scholarly publications and to attend professional meetings and conferences.
  • To ensure that each trainee is qualified to conduct independent research upon completion of the training course, we provide training to individuals for a minimum of one year, unless a longer training period is required. Applicants must provide a clear and detailed justification for the proposed training period (e.g. 12, 18 or 24 months).
  • Requires trainees to devote at least 80% of their time to training program activities during the training period.

  • Payout limit: $250,000 per budget period
  • Awards Floor: $245,000 per budget period
  • Project Duration: 60-month project period, five 12-month budget periods.

Application Requirements

  • Each applicant must limit their project narrative to 40 pages or less using the following standards:
    • Pages measure 8.5″ x 11″ on one side only, with 1″ margins on the top, bottom, and sides.
    • All descriptive text in the project description is double-spaced (no more than 3 lines per vertical inch). You do not need to use double spaces in titles, headings, footnotes, references, captions, or text in charts, tables, figures, and graphs. Applicants who place descriptive text unnecessarily in tables to avoid double spacing requirements risk exceeding the page limit.
    • Use a font that is size 12 or larger and is Times New Roman, Courier, Courier New, or Arial.
    • Include all important information in the project description, minimizing the need for additional appendices.
    • Please make sure you attach a PDF file only for application attachments. You may attach files to your application in formats other than PDF, but non-PDF files will be converted to PDF format before reviewers view and evaluate your application. Converting to PDF format may not retain its original format. Therefore, to ensure the integrity of your application, we strongly recommend that you attach only PDF files when submitting your application.
