Microsoft at Ubuntu Summit 2024: Join us! by info.odysseyx@gmail.com October 24, 2024 written by info.odysseyx@gmail.com October 24, 2024 0 comment 11 views 11 We are excited to be participating in the Ubuntu Summit, taking place this year in The Hague, Netherlands, from October 25-27, 2024. Ubuntu Summit always provides exciting opportunities to learn, network, and contribute to the future of open source software. Whether you attend in person or virtually, we look forward to connecting with you. Microsoft speaks at Ubuntu Summit 2024. Don’t miss this exciting Microsoft talk at Ubuntu Summit! You’ll get an overview of Rust’s journey and future, along with valuable insights into leveraging eBPF for data collection. Rust: Moving towards a better future Eric Holk | 26 October 2024 9:10 AM (CET) | KWA – main conference room From the beginning, Rust has been a programming language that challenges the status quo. Rust’s design is rooted in the belief that giving programmers better tools allows them to design safer, more reliable, and more efficient software. These beliefs lead Rust to a unique blend of high-level programming language features while giving programmers control over low-level details such as data layout when needed, while also paying special attention to the language’s ergonomics. But Rust isn’t just a technical achievement. Rust is an experiment in open and collaborative language design and fostering a collaborative and supportive community. Rust’s mission is ongoing, and there is still much work to be done to build on Rust’s community and technical contributions. This talk will provide a brief overview of the path Rust has taken so far towards a better future and what still needs to be done. Unlocking System Insights: Leveraging eBPF for Data Collection Jose Blanquisette | 5:00 PM CET, 27 October 2024 | KWA – main conference room eBPF allows you to extend kernel functionality by running custom programs without modifying source code or adding modules. Provides visibility into network activity, resource utilization, and more. However, eBPF adoption has faced several challenges, mainly due to the perceived complexity associated with the kernel. Fortunately, projects like Inspektor Gadget have emerged to help solve these problems. Inspektor Gadget unlocks the full potential of eBPF within Linux systems by providing a Docker-like experience and simplifying the development, build, and deployment process, making it easier to leverage eBPF for data collection and system insights. In this talk, Jose will provide a high-level introduction to eBPF and show off some of the tools available in Ubuntu that leverage it. We’ll then demonstrate how to build and run your own eBPF program on Ubuntu using the Inspektor Gadget, and finally explain how easy it is to share your work with the community.
