Mv3 high memory general release

We are planning to run the third version of the M series (Mv3) with 4.Day We are excited to announce that the Mv3 High Memory (HM) Virtual Machines (VMs) are now generally available, supporting the Intel® Xeon® Processor (Sapphire Rapids) generation across all segments. These next-generation M-series High Memory VMs provide customers with faster insights, more uptime, lower total cost of ownership, and improved price-performance for their most demanding workloads. The Mv3 HM VMs are also supported on RISE with SAP customers. With the launch of this Mv3 sub-family and the sub-family offering approximately 32TB of memory, Microsoft is now offering fourDay 4th generation Intel® Xeon® processors (Sapphire Rapids).

Key features of the new Mv3 HM VM

  • Mv3 HM VMs can scale from 6TB to 16TB to suit your workload.
  • Mv3 delivers up to 40% higher throughput than Mv2 High Memory (HM), significantly accelerating SAP HANA data load times for SAP OLAP workloads and significantly higher performance per core for SAP OLTP workloads than its predecessor, Mv2.
  • Based on Azure Boost, Mv3 HM delivers up to 2x higher throughput to Azure Premium SSD storage than Mv2, up to 25% improved network throughput, and more deterministic performance.
  • Built on previous generation intelligence, it is designed from the ground up to be resilient to memory, disk, and networking errors.
  • Available in both disk and diskless solutions, customers have the flexibility to choose the option that best suits their workload requirements.

During the private preview, several customers like SwissRe have benefited from the new VM sizes. In their own words:

The Mv3 high-memory VM results are promising. On average, we see a 30% performance increase without any major tuning.”

Details about the Mv3 very high memory virtual machine

We are excited to announce the latest and greatest additions to our Mv3-Series, Standard_M896ixds_32_v3 and Standard_M1792ixds_32_v3 VM SKUs. These new VM SKUs are the result of close collaboration between Microsoft, SAP, experienced hardware partners, and valued customers.

Key features of the new Mv3 VHM VM

  • Unparalleled memory capacity: Both the Standard_M896ixds_32_v3 and Standard_M1792ixds_32_v3 VMs feature approximately 32TB of memory, making them ideal for supporting very large in-memory databases and workloads.
  • High CPU Performance: With 896 cores in the Standard_M896ixds_32_v3 VM and 1792 vCPUs** in the Standard_M1792ixds_32_v3 VM, these VMs are designed to handle high-end S/4HANA workloads and deliver more CPU performance than other public cloud offerings. Enhanced Network and Storage Bandwidth: Both VM types offer the highest network and storage bandwidth available in Azure for full node VMs, including up to 200 Gbps network bandwidth with Azure Boost.
  • Optimal Performance for SAP HANA: These SAP HANA certified VMs adhere to SAP-mandated socket-to-memory ratios to ensure optimal performance for in-memory analytics and relational database servers.
