Hello, Microsoft 365 Insiders! We’re excited to announce that a new expanded gallery view option is available for minimized meeting windows.

Enhance the presenter and attendee experience with an expanded gallery view in Teams.

The minimized meeting window is an essential part of Teams, allowing you to continue using Teams while you’re in a meeting. When you minimize the meeting window, it becomes a smaller window at the top of the app. This allows you to track meeting activity with more participant video (including reactions and raised hands) and a preview of your own video. This allows you to stay informed and engaged throughout the meeting, even when you need to minimize the active meeting window. You can quickly return to the meeting by using the view switcher control in the upper right corner or by double-clicking the smaller window.

An expanded gallery view for minimized meeting windows is now available. The existing single-tile meeting view for attendees showing the active speaker has been enhanced with the option to expand to a gallery view showing up to four meeting participants and their Me Video tiles.

How it works

  1. When using the minimized conference window, the default view is the 1-tile Active Speaker view. Use the view switcher to select: View the participant gallery Select Options and enable the expanded gallery view.

  2. The default view in the meeting window when presenting is the expanded gallery view. Show only active presenters To reduce the size of the gallery, select the option in the upper right corner of the window.

Tips and Tricks

  • The expanded gallery view allows you to:
    • See other participants currently in the meeting (up to 4).
    • When a participant raises their hand, you should be able to acknowledge this and have them lower their hand.
    • Check out the participants’ reactions.
    • Directly mutes noisy participants.
    • Check out a preview of your video.
    • Receive relevant notifications related to your meetings.
    • Access related controls, such as the AV modality toggle.
    • End the conference from the call monitor.
  • When sharing your screen, the presenter conference window appears in an expanded gallery view by default, showing a preview of the content being shared with up to four meeting participants, and the presenter’s video if their camera is enabled.
